FEATURES:
• Superior heat and drought tolerance
• Ideally adapted to tolerate cold winters
• A deep rich color with little fertilizer
• Excels at mowing heights of _ inch
PERFORMANCE
CHARACTERISTICS:
• SUPERIOR SUMMER PERFORMANCE:
Impact is heat and drought tolerant and ranks
alongside Midnight, Unique, Monopoly and Washington
at turf trials in Washington, DC during the
drought conditions of the summer of ’95.
Impact is a true “transition zone bluegrass.”
• SUPERIOR COLD TOLERANCE:
Ideally adapted to “Bluegrass Country”
of the Northern Turfgrass zone, it is quick
to recover from winter dormancy.
• EXCEPTIONAL SHADE TOLERANCE:
Impact has topped many varieties in shade
by a considerable margin.
• REDUCED FERTILIZATION NEEDS:
Impact requires fewer fertilizer applications
than other varieties to maintain a dark green
color. It produces a highly uniform, very
robust low growing turf.
• FAIRWAY QUALITY:
Highly recommended to fill the need for a
“true fairway bluegrass.” Mowing
heights as low as _ inch are possible for
the first time in a bluegrass variety. Impact
is also perfectly suited for home lawns, athletic
fields, sod farms, cemeteries, and parks.
• HIGH SOD TENSILE STRENGTH:
25% better sod strength than other Kentucky
bluegrasses in a Maryland study, and 44% better
strength in a Nebraska study. Higher sod strength
means quicker sod harvest, less wastage.
DISEASE TOLERANCE:
• Leaf Spot Excellent resistance
• Rust Excellent resistance
• Brown Patch Very good resistance
• Damping Off Good resistance
• Melting Out Unmatched resistance
DEVELOPMENT:
Impact was bred by Jacklin Seed Company Research
Director, Doug Brede, Ph.D., at Jacklin Seed
Company. It originated as a highly apomictic,
single-plant selection from hybrid cross number
89-1037, made in the field in July, 1989,
in Post Falls, ID.
