SR 3100 is the newest improvement
in hard fescues. Selected for a dwarfer habit
and darker green color it is a premium grass
for both low maintenance sites and as part
of a high quality lawn mix. In addition, SR
3100 contains very high levels of viable endophyte.
The endophyte is a fungus that lives between
the plant cells and provides SR 3100 with
natural insect resistance and the ability
to persist in adverse environmental conditions.
SR 3100 is ideal for environmentally sensitive
sites where chemical use is limited.
SR 3100 hard fescue is a versatile grass that
will help reduce maintenance costs whether
planted in a monostand or a mixture. Its dwarfer
growth habit reduces the number and frequency
of mowings and reduces clipping yields. In
low maintenance areas it forms an attractive,
dark green, dense turf requiring minimal water
and fertilization in both sun and shade. This
makes SR 3100 ideal for use on golf course
slopes and bunkers as well as in parks, roadsides,
and reclamation areas. It is also ideal for
the homeowner who desires quality turf with
reduced maintenance. In addition, SR 3100
can be blended with improved Kentucky bluegrasses,
turf-type perennial ryegrasses, and Chewings
fescues for a high quality lawn mixture.
SR 3100 contains high levels of viable endophytes.
The presence of these high levels provides
many benefits that make SR 3100 particularly
valuable for use in those sites where chemical
applications are limited. The presence of
the endophyte has been shown to provide resistance
to a number of important turf insects including:
billbugs, sod webworms, chinch bugs, and armyworms.
In addition, endophyte-enhanced cultivars
during high stress periods have demonstrated
increased vigor, reduced weed invasion, rapid
recovery from injury, improved persistence,
greater density, and increased heat and drought
tolerance. The presence of the endophyte makes
SR 3100 even better adapted to the droughty,
low maintenance sites where hard fescues are
superior.
SR 3100 has shown high resistance to many
common turf diseases: leafspot, red thread,
summer patch, pink patch, netblotch, powdery
mildew, leaf rust, and dollar spot. This combination
of disease and insect resistance contributes
to its superior performance in the shade and
makes SR 3100 perfect for environmentally
sensitive areas where chemical applications
may be limited.
